An allegorical poem for “credit crunch” days



It was the time for our annual rush
To jump off the cliff and land with a crush,
When one bright one amongst us meekly said:
“I would much rather stay home in my bed”.
We stopped there, looked at each other and said:
“Mass suicide is really rather sad;
Let’s phone Samaritans and ask for help,
Before we decide to jump with a yelp.”
One old one amongst us reached for his phone,
Started dialling with a moan and groan,
Then just waited for someone to answer,
With his heart beating faster and faster.
But there was no luck, no reply at all,
No Samaritans to answer our call,
So we shrugged our shoulders and with a sigh,
Started marching again, ready to die
Singing, shouting: “ If only… only if…”
As we hurled ourselves down from the darned cliff…


My comment:

Hope and wait for other’s help only if
You are prepared to die under a cliff…

Back to Bloging… and about diet and slimming…

Well, it’s been a long time; I’ve been drifting far too long. The trouble with drifting is that once in that drifting mood, it is difficult to get out of it and restart “living.”

The other problem is that it is also very easy just to sit around, doing nothing and piling on weight around the girth. In the last year I put on an extra stone. I decided enough was enough, I had to get out of the comfy armchair, do something and lose some weight as well. Easier said than done… losing weight that is…
Having got out of the armchair, doing some exercises and trying to eat less was doing absolutely nothing regarding losing weight. So I decided to look around for some help and done a bit of research on weight loss.

There is an information overload on losing weight and dieting. There are hundreds if not thousands of articles and suggested diet routines out there. To say that they are confusing is an understatement. There are contradictory theories about diet and exercise that would confuse even the experts. There are countless supplements, promising to be “the ultimate” in guaranteeing weight loss.

None appealed to me; most of them sounded too weird for words, or too complicated and lacking in convincing scientific research behind it. No doubt that some of them actually work if you can stay with it, whilst others would benefit certain types of people and not others. Nutrition, digestion and metabolism varies a great deal from person to person and some drugs or supplements work for some people whilst can make others sick.
There really is virtually nothing out there that would suite everyone without exception and could guarantee weight loss.

I spent 42 years as a Dental Practitioner before my retirement and during that time I did study nutrition; after all good nutritional practice it is the basic building block in keeping healthy. “You are what you eat” is not just a glib statement… it is fact.
I know enough about the subject – I thought – to make the right decision in choosing the right diet, supplements and exercises to guarantee painless result. Well, it wasn’t as simple as I thought.

I tried a couple of well supported methods… with miserable result… I will not go into details, as I do not intend to knock any of the methods I tried. As I said before, they do work for some and not for others.

Almost ready to give up, I found something recently, that sounded almost too god to be true. It is a very simple method that seems to make good sense and it also appealed to me as an ex-Dental Practitioner, as it also helps to maintain good oral hygiene. It is a sugarless chewing gum containing an African herbal substance called: Hoodia Gordonii, which is scientifically proven to act on the hypothalamic region of the brain, inducing a signal of “fullness”, thus stopping one feeling hungry. It is a simple but highly effective “trick”, stopping one wanting food. Combined with a sensible nutritious diet of small, but adequate portions of food, it can hardly fail. With reportedly no unwanted side effects whatsoever, it seems to be the ideal way of losing weight that would suit the vast majority of people.

I tried it, with the battle cry of: “What have I got to lose?” The answer soon became self evident… WEIGHT… It certainly worked for me...

I can recommend it, it is simple, pleasant, a no fuss method of loosing those offending bulges… and there is nothing to lose by trying it… except WEIGHT…

I intensely dislike hype and superlatives, especially when it comes to marketing and advertising.

I do admit that I like watching a good movie from time to time. I am also very fond of good music.

Unfortunately these days I seldom have time to go to a movie or a concert and therefore, whenever I have a little time to relax - which is not very often - I either look for a movie on the TV or put on a CD to listen to music.

However, trying to find anything half decent on the telly is a very tall order and even if you find a decent movie or TV Show the frequent commercial breaks ruin the entertainment. Also, it is a very long time since I purchased a CD, which means I keep on listening to the same old pieces.

My grandsons, who are far more conversant with modern technology than I am, recently encouraged me to look for some music downloads on the Internet and pointed me in the right direction.

Having spent some time searching I came across a site, which seems to me like an Aladdin's cave for downloading movies, TV shows, Music, including IPods and MP3s Zune downloads, games and whatever else you can imagine in Digital Downloads. There is also a section specialising in copying CDs and DVDs.

I recently joined the site as a member and now I am enjoying movie and music downloads from a selection of over 100 million titles… At times I feel like a kid let loose in a candy store… If you have a half decent computer with a half decent Internet connection, try it. I am sure you'll love it too… It has one big advantage over candies; if and when you feel greedy, you cannot get sick from it… the worse that can happen you run out of storage space on your hard disk…

The proper positioning of your ads should be done with care. Try to position your ads where surfers are most likely to click on them. According to research, the one place that surfers look first when they visit a certain site is the top left. The reason behind this is not known. Maybe it is because some of the most useful search engine results are at the top of all other rankings. So visitors tend to look in that same place when browsing through other sites.

Some who are just starting at this business may think they are doing pretty well already and thinking that their click-through rates and CPM figures are quite healthy. However, there are many more techniques and styles to generate more clicks, doubling your earnings. By knowing these techniques and working them to your advantage, you will be getting much better results than your competitors.

Finally, Adsense has some excellent tracking statistics that allows webmasters and publishers to track their results across a number of site on a site by site, page by page, or any other basis you wanted. You should be aware of this capability and make the most of it because it is a powerful tool that will help you find out which ads are performing best. This way, you can fine-tune your Adsense ads and focus more on the ones being visited the most, rather than those, which are being ignored.


To start making money with Adsense, you should have a definite focus on what you wanted to achieve and how you will go about achieving them. As with any other kind of business ventures, time is needed coupled with patience.

Do not just ignore your site and your Adsense once you have finished placing them. Spare some time, even an hour, making adjustments to the Adsense ads on your sites to quickly trigger your Adsense income.

How To Avoid Getting Your Adsense Account Terminated

Google, being the undisputable leader in search engines, is placing high importance on the quality and relevancy of its search engines. Most especially now that the company is public property. In order to keep the shareholders and users of its engines happy, qualities of the returned results are given extreme importance.

For this same reason, doing something wrong in Adsense and other forms of advertisements, whether intentionally or unintentionally, could result in a severe penalty; may get you banned and even have your account terminated.

So for those who are thinking of getting a career in Adsense, do not just think of the strategies you will be using to generate more earnings. Consider certain aspects first before you actually get involved.

Hidden texts. Filling your advertisement page with texts to small to read, has the same colour as the background and using css for the sole purpose of loading them with rich keywords content and copy, will earn you a penalty award that is given to those who are hiding links.

Page cloaking. There is a common practice of using browser or bot sniffers to serve the bots of a different page other than the page your visitors will see. Loading a page with a bot that a human user will never see is a definite no-no. This is tricking them to click on something that you want but they may not want to go to.

Multiple submissions. Submitting multiple copies of your domain and pages is another thing to stay away from. For example, trying to submit a URL of an Adsense as two separate URL’s is inviting trouble and even termination. Likewise, this is a reason to avoid auto submitters for those who are receiving submissions. Better check first if your domain is submitted already to a certain search engine before you try to submit to it again. If you see it there, then move on.

Link farms. Be wary of who and what are you linking your Adsense to. The search engines know that you cannot control your links. But you can certainly control what you link to. Link farming has always been a rotten apple in the eyes of search engines, especially Google. That is reason enough to try and avoid them. Having a link higher than 100 on a single page will classify you as a link farm so try not to make them higher than that.

Page rank for sale. If you have been online for quite some time, you will notice that there are some sites selling their PR links or trading them with other sites. If you are doing this, expect a ban anytime in the future. It is okay to sell ads or gain the link. But doing it on direct advertisement of your page rank is a certain way to get on the bad side of search engines.

Doorways. This is similar to cloaking pages. The common practice of a page loaded with choice keyword ads aimed at redirecting visitors to another “user-friendly” page is a big issue among search engines. There are many SEO firms offering this kind of services. Now that you know what they actually are, try to avoid them at all costs.

Multiple domains having the same content. In case you are not aware of it, search engines look at domains IP’s, registry dates and many others. Having multiple domains having the same exact content is not something you can hide from them. The same goes with content multiplied many times on separate pages, sub domains and forwarding multiple domains to the same content.

Many of the above techniques apply to most search engines and are not entirely for Google only. By having a mind set that you are building your Adsense together with your pages for the human users and not for bots, you can be assured of the great things for your ads and sites…

…Not to mention avoiding the wrath of the search engines and getting your Adsense and site account terminated… altogether.
